Common questions from UK operators
Do I need an operator licence if I only have one truck? ▾
Yes — if that truck is over 3.5 tonnes and you use it commercially, you need an Operator Licence regardless of fleet size. A Restricted Operator Licence for a single vehicle is straightforward and our fee starts at £350.
What is the difference between a Restricted and a Standard licence? ▾
A Restricted Licence lets you carry only your own goods. A Standard National Licence lets you carry goods for other businesses and charge for it. If you are a haulier — meaning other companies pay you to move their freight — you need a Standard licence. Standard licences require a CPC-qualified Transport Manager to be named on them.
How often does tachograph data need to be downloaded? ▾
Driver cards must be downloaded at least every 28 days. Vehicle units must be downloaded at least every 90 days. These are legal minimums — if you have missed downloads, contact us and we will advise on how to get back on track.
I have received a letter from DVSA — can you help? ▾
Yes. Contact us immediately — do not ignore DVSA correspondence. We can review the letter, advise on the appropriate response, and help you prepare your records. The sooner you contact us after receiving a letter, the more options you have.
